Blog 2/3: The Rise of the Second-Hand Clothing Market
I am amazed to see how quickly the second-hand clothing
market is growing. People are buying and selling used clothes through online marketplaces
and apps. Second-hand clothing helps reduce textile waste because garments are
used for a longer time instead of being thrown away after a certain time. It
also reduces the need for new clothing production, which saves water, energy,
and virgin raw materials.
Especially younger generations are more interested in
sustainable fashion and used garments. At the same time, second-hand clothing
is often more affordable and offers unique fashion choices. There are still
challenges such as some people's concerns about hygiene and product quality and
some are concerned about the authenticity of the product while buying from a
local second-hand store instead of a brand shop.
