Buyer assistant internship part 3. The last post

Hello for the last time!

This will be my last post from my buying assistant internship period. The last weeks went by so fast and I am so grateful for this opportunity. I have learned so much from my time here, and I find it to be a great advantage that I was trusted with so much responsibility. My internship did not consist of having to do any presentation or project for the company, yet I was entrusted with the job tasks of a buying assistant from the first week. Now I can confidently say that I am familiar with the entire process of product development and how it works in a company. I have learned all the tasks of a buying assistant and got acquainted with the daily job of a buyer. Throughout my time being the main task was to have daily contact with the suppliers through email, and this has been the most advantageous lesson I learned as I am now confident with the specific way of interacting with them as well as the terms that are used in a specific way.

Overall the ten weeks went by extremely fast and this has been a great experience that has really prepared me for my future career within a company. There were several obstacles such as the move to the other floor that were not planned, so it became a hectic couple of months. But now when it is over, I really appreciate all my colleagues and everything that they have taught me. I will miss the business environment and the daily creations of new clothing designs. Hopefully I will return soon!

Have a fantastic summer!

All the best wishes,

Last post!

Hej everyone!

Yesterday I had my final presentation for all decision makers on plastic packaging within Lindex. Time to write my third and last blog post!

First of all, I am really happy to read that you all had a good time at your internships and added value with your research.

It feels really good to round up and summarize everything that I have done the last 3 months. A few concrete actions I've taken since my last blogpost:

  1. I organized a status meeting and workshop with our business controller, environmental specialist and CSR coordinator where we worked on the goals and actions I formulated for the new plastics commitment

  2. I reviewed the instructions for suppliers on transport and sales packaging and added a section reg. our new plastics commitment and added material requirements

  3. I held a presentation for all buying assistants that decide on using transport packaging for Lindex items to raise awareness

  4. I developed a checklist that can be used as tool for designing/sourcing/buying packaging and a powerpoint presentation with clear examples. I received feedback from all decision makers on packaging to make sure it is an useful tool for them

  5. I created a page on Sharepoint on Sustainable packaging with background information on our ambition and all useful documents

My final presentation yesterday
was for 10 decision makers on plastic packaging within Lindex. I explained the need for a shift from a linear to a circular plastic system and shared my findings and recommendations. It was great to also show samples of recycled content packaging and pricing information (thanks to very commited colleagues in our production offices). It was an interactive meeting and I got positive feedback. Now it is time to write everything down! :-) I have one more month at Lindex to help out on some recommendations I've given.

This was (and is) a great experience for me so far. I've met a lot of experienced and passionate people that are open for learning new things. I got a lot of support, responsibility and freedom at the same time. I hope to find a similar atmosphere in future jobs.

Have a lovely summer everyone, see you next year!

Internship blogpost 1/3

Hello everyone,

Exciting and important things happening at the Helsinki Fashion Week! I will spend this summer doing my internship at HFW and together with another intern, we are conducting a research about animal leather transparency and traceability. Since I am studying textile value chain management, I will be focusing on the leather production and supply chain. The other intern comes with a law background and he will be focusing on the legal side of the leather industry. Together we will create an interesting report about the current state of the leather transparency and traceability and we will evaluate what needs to be done in order to make the leather industry more sustainable and transparent in the future.

Buyer assistant internship part 2.

Hello everybody!!

Thought I check in with you again. So the internship has been intense. The place where I worked experienced a move throughout my time there. We moved two floors down so this was a primary task of mine to make sure that the move will go smoothly. I was working with this move for several of weeks, so it really felt as I have always had things to do. Apart from my daily work tasks of answering l/d and strike offs and managing the sample room, my days were filled with packing all the clothes into boxes and sorting out the clothes from old seasons that will go to the sale. This was fun part though - the internal headquarter sale that happens every other month where all the samples are sold for very cheap prices!

So after I had packed everything into boxes and moved down the entire collection room to two floors down -  it was still around 3 weeks to go until the actual office move. This made my job even more intense, where everytime I had to comment something I had to get the sample ref. from the collection room.

Another thing that was a daily task for me was sitting in the program InDesign and updating the overviews of the collection that we are planning for AW19. During my time there, we already started planning the collection SS20 - and it feels a bit sad that I cannot fully be apart of that because I definitely think it will be a bestseller ;) well at least for the children, since I am at the children's department. But at least I can say that after this internship my InDesign skills have gotten much better, and that's always a merit in the fashion world!

Hope you are all enjoying the weekend now and I will talk to you next week which will be my last post from my time here.

Best wishes
Samanta

An update from Franchetti - part 3: My last week!!!

Hi everyone!!

Wow, this 10 weeks has been fun and worthwhile. Time has gone so fast. It has already gone 10 weeks since I started at Franchetti. I have really enjoyed my time there and I have learned a lot. When I first started my internship here I was looking forward to see how it really is to work as a buyer. My colleagues has been amazing they have teach me alot. They allowed me take part of their everyday work and I feel very thankful for that. I have also had my own projects during this time. I like how they work at Franchetti. They have divided their teams in different product categories. Each team has a manager that both is working as a seller (Franchettis front person to the customer) and as a buyer. They also have buying assistants in the team. The fun part with this is that your task can differ from day to day. One of my projects was to source fabrics from the suppliers for SS20. But I also got another project where they wanted me to put together a moodboard with the upcoming trends for SS20 to our customers so they could get inspiration when they was planing to place their new orders.

I really enjoyed my time here, but now it's time to leave them. I still have one exciting thing to do before I check out. We have this social media project going on and they are going to have a workshop and want me to take part in this. I really looking forward to this. After that i will take vacation and enjoy the summer. I hope you all have had an amazing time at your interships!!!

Enjoy your summer!!!

IFS-CE part two

Hi!

As I started writing my report it felt like all the pieces were coming together,
I had a clear pitcure of what I wanted to write and how I wanted my report to look.
However, after talking to Jenny I realized I been goning way to deep into each article
for a structured litterature review. I therefore decided to take a step back and get
some distance to my work. I will keep working on my report during the summer
to both get the result I want and can be satisfyied with.

Wich all of you a great summer,
Evelina

Goodbye GANT!

Wow, such a journey at GANT and it´s time to wrap my internship up and summarize it here!
Time really flew, and I got really sad when I had to say goodbye to my GANT family!
Cause that is really what it became, event though how cheesy it might sound - I got a family at the office during my internship!

During these two months I got to initiate a project and that really gave me an overview of the whole organisation and developed my own improvement skills. The project was asked for from the organisation and I´m so happy that I got to give something that will be implemeted for a long perspective at the organisation!

My last week I got to participate at GANT AWARDS - the big party of the year at GANT, and this year it was something extra since we celebrate 70 years! The Award took Place at Grand Hotel in Stockholm where around 400 people working at GANT from all our markets gathered and spent an amazing evening/night together!

I also went on free yoga at the office every tuesday during my internship - such a good thing!
And got free fruits and crackers everyday! GANT really knows how to treat their employees!

I´m superhappy over my internship and I got to participate in the presentation of my project for my bosses and for all the markets at the whole office! Such a handover!

Well, I can sum up my internship with this:

I´M ALL GANTIFIED!

Buying Internship pt.3

Hello everyone and happy summer!

Last Wednesday I completed the last day of my internship. I honestly cannot believe how fast these ten weeks have flown by, or even that I have now completed the first year of the master program! Crazy...

My main goal for this field study course and the internship was, besides learning more about the company and industry, to challenge myself and say yes to any challenges or tasks that my supervisor asked of me, even if they felt too hard or too scary for me to do. We're all here to learn anyways, right? I am the first to admit that I often took simpler tasks over hard ones and used methods and ways of working that I knew work, but I didn't want to lose this opportunity to break these patterns.

So, on my last day, I held a presentation for the Home Department that I’ve been working at and presented my findings from the competitor analysis that I started in April (that I told you more about in my previous post). Presenting in front of a group of people is something I've always felt insecure and unsure about, even if it is done as a group. This presentation, however, I did by myself in front of 30 people for over 30 minutes. Yikes! But it went really well. That if nothing shows that if your passionate about your topic, time flies by in presentations as well ;) and it really is more enjoyable to speak in front of a group of people when you know the topic by heart and do not have to memorize a script.

Getting an opportunity to have an internship as a part of the curriculum was something I missed when I took my bachelor prior to the studies at Borås University. Just getting out of the lecture halls and to see how people work in the industry you want to pursue after graduation has been really healthy. Not only have I gotten the chance to get to know and work with people with impressive experience and skills, but the internship has also boosted my confidence by showing me that I also have a lot to contribute to such a workplace and that everyone needs to start somewhere.

Hope everyone enjoys their summer!

So I guess this is goodbye, Intern at Shyness Interior Part 3

Hi everyone!
This is the last post of this internship, the time has passed by so quickly, the time moves fast when having fun, they say.
My assignment was completed a few weeks earlier than we planned, which meant we had time over to continue further with the project. I will be doing two more weeks than we were assigned to, so I still got at least one week left, then I will be jumping over to a new internship in Stockholm where I will stay this summer.

So over to what we have been up to lately, we had a product shoot, all these pictures that you will see on the website, and shot some pictures of one of the pieces for a sustainable project that will be released this autumn. This week, just a few days ago we filmed and shot some pictures for the coming year here at Shyness Interior. The shoot took us out to Käringön, an island on the west coast of Sweden. Shyness Interior also has its own store here full of cute products, everything you need for the bedroom or Livingroom.
We got to spend time in one of the islands most incredible houses, with a view against the rocks and the sea from three out of for angles of the house. A perfect shooting location for a Swedish design brand such as Shyness. Köringön treated us with perfect Swedish summer weather, sun and a blue sky against the dark blue sea and all the flowers. But the day of our arrival was not as inviting as one of the photoshoots, it was raining and it was totally grey, fortunately, the weather got better.
I got to iron the bed linen and all the kitchen textiles, which I have done plenty of times on this internship. I have really learnt how to fold the cover for duvets on my own, we all now that great struggle when doing it by yourself, at least if you want it to be as nice looking as when you buy it, so now I could say I am a pro at it, hehe.

To summarise this whole experience, I would start with that this experience has made me realize that I am capable of working with this kind of questions such as a textile engineer with fibres and construction techniques and now with CSR. I have come to realize that my hard work so far has paid off, a real confidence boost!
One of my biggest dreams is to start my own business someday and what better way to learn about it but by one that has her own business and are thriving. So I am so grateful that I got this chance, it is a way better feeling to get compliments for doing a good job than all the grades in the world!

So, now we have come to the part where I know a lot of us is working hard with the final reports or articles for the field study presentation, so this is where you will find me at the moment, with my head down in the computer. So I will wish you all good luck with the hard work you are doing! I guess we see each other in September, I hope you all have a great summer!

Over and out

Sara

My time at Ellos Group

Hi everyone!

Today was my last day at the office at Ellos Group´s HQ in Borås and I am writing this with joy and with a smile on my face. These weeks have gone by so fast and I have learnt more than I could ever imagine. This field study has been a knowledgeable, fun and memorable journey, which I am very grateful for to have experienced. It has been an eye-opening experience where I have been able to go behind the curtains and see from my own perspective what it is like at a fashion company. As a buyer assistant intern, I have learned more about the hard work that is put into running a fashion business both internal and external, which I admire to the fullest.

These last weeks, I have been working more with enriching products, classification of clothes, order quantification and placing orders but also been around the marketing department and learnt a little bit about influencer marketing; how Ellos Group works with their social media channels and how their website and pictures are created, which has been so fun. I also had the opportunity to be in the stockroom and watch how they pack goods to all the customers and so on. Ellos Group has also worked with the entrepreneur and famous blogger Isabella Löwengrip, where a beautiful collection is going to be launched in the fall 2019. About two weeks ago, Isabella Löwengrip had a event at the HQ where she talked about her launch, her journey as a entrepreneur and showed the upcoming clothes, which was both fun and inspiring. After hearing about her journey and drive to become a successful entrepreneur, you get filled with energy and power to do the same, which I love.

I am so grateful for the things that I have experienced at Ellos Group HQ in Borås, an experience that I always will have with me.

Have a great weekend and summer!

Thank you! ♡

Third post and end of the field study

Hi everyone again,

This will be my last and third blogpost here but time has passed by so fast and I feel like we just started the internship. This has been a great experience but I have learned a lot, met new people and got a taste of the industry which gets me excited about the future.

I have done a lot of different work at the internship and all free time went into the report. I took care of the marketing and sales for the company as well as helping the designer with samples from time to time. But I got a lot of responsibility to update their Instagram and Facebook, which will continue after I leave. It has been fun to take care of the social media and marketing plans for them and organize a marketing plan that will be used for next months. I could use my knowledge from my old work as well as what I have learn from school on doing marketing plans and taking care of that area for them.

Now it’s just finishing the report and present it to fellow students and teacher. But I am proud with my report but also, I learned so much by getting better insight into the topic I choose and learning something new every day in the field study. I am grateful for this time and experience and can’t wait to see what the future has installed for me.

Have a great summer!

Less is More @ ASKET - Pt. 1

It’s been a little over a month for me at this amazing workplace “ASKET”, a Stockholm based young clothing brand and it is extremely hard to sum up my experiences and opinions I have for it, but I’ll try my best J

It has changed my perspective of “sustainability” that everyone is talking about and made me believe that it could be more than just greenwashing.
It is extremely enlightening to see the power to drive change when a brand is built on a foundation of sustainable practices instead of having sustainability as a mere “ a must to have” to run the finances of a  business.

The two young, non-fashion background founders of the company came up with the idea for this brand during their thesis (hopefully I can do that soon) and since then they are on a mission to slow down the fashion industry. Their vision of “Pursuit of less” really makes your brain think about what is it that we really need. It has affected my buying decisions for sure – now I am also a believer of “a permanent collection” of meaningful essentials as they put it J

Sitting in their weekly meetings I could see how every decision and action at the office, be it product or marketing, has to go through the lens of social and environmental benefits. Of course, the truth remains that companies are there to profit but what I learnt is you can do that and feel good about yourself at the same time. It is not so hard and definitely not impossible.

Apart from that, the brand is definitely a place to be in. You will find a bunch of young innovative minds in a super cool showroom cum office space having fun through culture night every second Wednesday. You can spot us at museums, amusement park or sometimes just watching a classic movie screening at the office- it is time to watch the documentary “True cost” this Wednesday, looking forward to it!

Until next time!

Review of the interview process

Hello everybody,

looking back, I can say that the interview process was very fun and I could learn a lot as well. It is not so easy to conduct a free individual interview without straying from the topic. I also noticed that I was getting better from interview to interview. I changed and optimized the catalog of topics at the beginning several times during the process. The thematic approach I had at the beginning has also changed. I noticed from the discussions that it made more sense to go in a slightly different or more general direction. Therefore, I changed my topic to 'Impulse buying of millennial fashion consumers' and canceled the topic 'intangible value creation through social media' or integrated it as a sub-topic. At the moment I am in the process of summarizing everything in my journal article and so far, I am very satisfied with the results.

Cheers

Raphael
