What I learned on the first day

Already the first day of my internship for Acne Studios gave me a lot to think about. Work within fashion product development was a completely new thing to me and the importance of it is undeniably inevitable.

Why are seasons presented so early every year? Meaning why AW-season can be seen on catwalks already early spring and SS-season is presented during autumn months.

What happens before the looks can actually be purchased from the stores?
The answer is production.

And what happens before production? Product development!

The looks seen on the catwalk aren't ready to be hanged to the racks of brick-and-mortar stores or virtual racks of e-commerce. Instead, the development process is just beginning.

In the fashion shows many looks are exaggerated, eye-cathing and attention-seeking. Many people could think that they would never wear such things - and product developers know that.

That's why the looks are taken back to the production office, are put on a "real-size" model (in this case size 36) and became evaluated by a team of talented product developers thinking what a basic consumer wants. The exaggeration is stripped down, the fit is re-adjusted and the variety of colors is being thought of. The styling used in the show doesn't apply to the normal life and the patterns of many garments need to be made again to ensure better functionality and performance of the style in question.

That is how the money is made of.

Sketches ready to be re-adjusted during fitting session.
